WEST END CROSSFIT FAQ
CAN I START WITH NO PRIOR CROSSFIT EXPERIENCE?
Yes, of course! Everyone has to start somewhere, and most of our members started with zero CrossFit experience.
To get you up to speed, we offer two 'Foundations On Ramp' classes that are one-on-one with an experienced coach where you'll learn and practice the different movements and lifts you'll see in class.
CAN I DO CROSSFIT IF I'M TOTALLY OUT OF SHAPE?
Yes! Many people come to us having not exercised in years. The beauty of how we CrossFit here at WECF is that every workout can be adjusted for all skill and fitness levels. Our coaches are well versed in modifying workouts to meet our members where they are.
CAN I DO CROSSFIT IF I HAVE BAD KNEES AND CAN'T RUN OR HAVE A BUM SHOULDER AND CAN'T PUT WEIGHT OVERHEAD?
Absolutely! That's one of the best things about CrossFit here at WECF. Probably half of our members are modifying workouts to tailor them to what is best for their body. Every body is different and our coaches are some of the best around at working individually with athletes to find a plan to keep you working out, getting stronger and not getting hurt.
Longevity and strength are our overall goals here at WECF. We have athletes in the gym every day who can't run, can't put weight overhead, can't jump, etc. and they are still coming in and having fantastic workouts.
EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT THE AMAZING COMMUNITY THAT CROSSFIT BRINGS. WHAT IS SO GREAT ABOUT IT?
Accountability, support and inspiration! Many people at our gym will tell you that some of their closest friends in life are from the gym. We have an incredibly supportive community here where everyone's wins are celebrated - big or small. We are there for each other on a daily basis. Also, it's easier to stick to an exercise routine when you know a couple friends from the class you usually attend are expecting you to be there on a certain day.
Accountability is one of the best ways to build consistency. Here at West End CrossFit we are all inspiring each other to work just a little harder and get a little better each and every day. We have fun community outings generally every other month - rock climbing, hiking and axe throwing are just a few examples of things we've done recently.
HELP! I DON'T KNOW WHAT A LOT OF THE WORDS AND ACRONYMS MEAN WHEN I READ THROUGH A WORKOUT.
CrossFit is known for using lots of unique acronyms. It's actually kind of fun to learn the jargon as you go along, but it can be daunting at the outset. Coaches know this and will always explain the WOD (our favorite acronym of all, Workout of the Day) in great detail at the beginning of every class, so it will be clear what we are doing each day.
